Billing FAQ

Short answers about receipts and paying. For cancelling, upgrading, downgrading and changing the card on file, see Managing Your Plan.

Receipts

How do I get a receipt?

One is emailed to you automatically every time a payment succeeds. You do not have to ask for it, and there is nothing to switch on.

  • It goes to the email address the account is registered under — the Email field on Settings -> Account, which is shown but cannot be edited there.
  • The subject line is Your Dead Simple Chat Receipt. That is the phrase to search your inbox for if you cannot find it.
  • The email itself contains a Download as PDF link for a PDF copy of the invoice, which is what most finance teams want.

Is there a billing history page in the dashboard?

No. Settings -> Account shows the plan you are on and the state of the payment, but it does not list past payments, and there is nowhere in the dashboard to download an old invoice. The emailed receipts are the record.

So keep them, or forward them to whoever handles your accounts as they arrive. If one has gone missing, contact support and ask for a copy.

Can I get my company name, address or VAT number on the invoice?

The dashboard has no way to put them there. The Account Info form on Settings -> Account collects a company name and an address, but those fields are for your own record inside Dead Simple Chat — they are not passed through to the invoice, so filling them in will not change what the receipt says.

If a tax number, a company address or a purchase-order reference has to appear on the paperwork, contact support and say what needs to be on it. Do that before the next renewal rather than after, since a receipt is generated at the moment the payment goes through.

Who do I ask about a specific charge?

Contact support — by email at support@deadsimplechat.com, or by phone on the numbers on that page. Quote the date on the receipt and the email address the account is under.

Payment methods

What can I pay with?

The payment form in the dashboard takes a credit or debit card. That is what Update Payment Method on Settings -> Account opens, and it is what the checkout on Plans & Pricing asks for. Enter the card, and it is used for that purchase and for renewals after it.

Can I pay another way?

There is nothing in the dashboard for it, so it is not something you can set up yourself.

If a card does not work for you — because of how your organisation buys software, or because you need to be invoiced — contact support and explain what you need. Whether an alternative can be arranged depends on the plan and is agreed case by case, so treat it as a conversation rather than a published option, and get it confirmed before you rely on it.

Can I change the card later?

Yes, at any time. Settings -> Account -> Update Payment Method, enter the new card, and the next renewal uses it. See Updating the card.

My payment failed. What now?

A banner appears across the dashboard — "Your payment has failed. Please update your payment info to prevent the service from being suspended." — and Settings -> Account asks you to update the payment method. Putting a working card in clears both.

The emails about a failed payment also link straight to the card form, so you can fix it without signing in first.

If the card is fine and the payment still will not go through, that is usually something only your bank or card issuer can see. Talk to them first, then contact support if it is still stuck.

Plans and prices

Current plans and what each one includes are on deadsimplechat.com/pricing, and on Plans & Pricing in the dashboard, which shows them against the plan you are on now. Those pages are the only place prices are quoted.

For what the numbers on a plan actually govern — how many people can be in your chat rooms at once, how many rooms you may have, and how much file storage you get — see Plans and Quotas.
